While human rights organizations denounce the increase in aggressions against territorial defenders in the context of the construction of the Interoceanic Corridor in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in the last year and a half, in that same period there has been an intensification of activities and meetings promoted by Mexican authorities together with businessmen and political leaders from Europe, the United States and Asia, to promote what they consider the “benefits” of said corridor and its more than ten industrial parks.

There Will Be No Landscape After The Transformation

Puente Madera, Oaxaca has become a target of intimidation, criminalization, and dispossession by the State as the 4T pushes the Interoceanic Corridor and its Development Poles. But they can’t hold the line for the whole region.

They call upon the peoples of the region to meet the challenge together, warning that if there is no unity in the resistance, there will be no landscape after the transformation.

Community defender David Hernandez in Oaxaca sentenced to 46 years and six months in prison

We turn our attention to a struggle taking place just north in Oaxaca, where defenders of territory resist expropriation of their territory, and contamination of the Earth by the Development Poles of the Interoceanic Corridor. This past Wednesday, David Hernández Salazar, in yet another case of collusion between State and transnational criminal organizations, was wrongfully accused and sentenced for standing in the way of “business as usual.”
