Solidarity from Chiapas with Palestine on the Feast of Guadalupe

Today, December 12th, the day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, we remembered the suffering of the indigenous peoples of Chiapas and Palestine together with Father Marcelo. We remembered their sadness, sorrow, pain, misery and the thousands of unpunished murders.

Before the multitude of parishioners, indigenous people, workers, men and women of the town, as the Chiapas Palestine Action Committee we expressed our solidarity with the Palestinian people by reading the following statement from the altar:

”San Cristóbal de las Casas, December 12, 2023

Compañeros and compañeras, we are very grateful for the space given to us to give our word and we are also very grateful for listening.

As many of you will know, since October 7th, a war has started against the Palestinian people and there have been more than two months of aggression. In this time 18,000 people have been killed by Israeli army bombs, the vast majority of them women and children. Homes, hospitals and schools have been bombed and destroyed forever. It is not a war between equal parties, it is a massacre of the civilian population of Palestine by a State with one of the most powerful armies in the world. It is a massacre on such a scale that this year the traditional Christmas celebrations in the city of Bethlehem, there in Palestine, have been canceled.

Our collective heart cries out for justice and demands an end to this genocide. We invite you and good-hearted people to join that collective voice to demand an end to the massacre.

It is appropriate, on a symbolic and religiously important date like today, to remember that Mary, Joseph and Jesus were a humble family from Palestine, they were displaced, migrants in search of a decent place to live, and that they were persecuted by Herod the tyrant’s soldiers. We have to prevent, as good-hearted people, this drama from continuing to repeat itself today in Palestine.

For the right to life of all peoples and all living beings, as well as the right to peace with justice. For the application of international laws that protect the life and self-determination of peoples. For an immediate ceasefire and the safe return of the hundreds of thousands of people displaced by the war.

Chiapas Palestine Action Committee.
