On the night of May 22, 2023, Gilberto López Sántiz, an indigenous Tseltal member of the Support Bases of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (BAEZLN) was the victim of an armed attack that put his life at serious risk. He received a bullet wound to the left side at chest level. Hours earlier, the Moisés y Gandhi Autonomous Community, Lucio Cabañas Autonomous Municipality (Ocosingo, Chiapas) reported the armed attack perpetrated by members of the Regional Organization of Coffee Growers of Ocosingo (ORCAO).
