Over the years families, churches, unions, community organizations, schools, classrooms, tribal groups, and individuals have all volunteered their energy, their creativity, and their resources to support Zapatistas through the work of Schools for Chiapas. Today, we invite you to join us in this essential work of global solidarity and hope.
Past volunteers have organized education programs within their communities, organizations, and schools; hosted social, educational, and cultural events; sponsored school gardens, neighborhood clean-ups, and seed exchanges; a few created successful funraising events such as pot luck dinners, concerts, dances, house parties, tamale sales, and even long-distance bike rides. Some people grow GMO-free native Mexican corn every year as a way to raise awareness about ongoing Zapatista resistance to genetic contaminations in Chiapas. In other words, there are all kinds of ways to use your talents and skills in support of the rebel Mayan communities of Chiapas, Mexico.
