- The All Rights for All Network (Red TDT) rejects the criminalization carried out by President AMLO in his morning to delegitimize the Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas Center for Human Rights in Chiapas and the Miguel Agustín Pro Juárez Human Rights Center in Mexico City.

The signatory organizations make a firm call to the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to cease the acts of criminalization and stigmatization against the work carried out by the organizations Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas Center for Human Rights (Frayba) and the Miguel Agustín Pro Juárez Human Rights Center (Centro ProDH), who have been repeatedly accused of being conservative and of magnifying violence in both Chiapas and Guerrero, respectively.
This discourse aggravates reality, since Mexico continues to be one of the most dangerous countries for journalism and the defense of human rights. According to the UNHCHR, between January 2019 and February 2024, at least 103 murders of human rights defenders, 41 journalists, seven media workers have been recorded in possible relation to their work; additionally, 38 defenders or journalists were disappeared, 25 regained their freedom and 13 remain missing.
These statements coming from high-ranking officials such as the President of the Republic, put its members at an eminent level of risk, due to the context of violence that exists in the country, disqualifying their work that they have carried out for more than 35 years. It is important to remind AMLO that in the 90s, when he started his movement in Tabasco, it was in these civil society organizations where he took refuge to find support for the attack that the conservative government of that time began against his movement.
It was in civil society organizations in Tabasco and Chiapas where he found protection to avoid further repression and so that he would not experience firsthand what his government is promoting today in those same organizations, where, like the governments of that time, today his government represses and discredits anyone who does not think like it and who simply carries out altruistic work in society and in the most vulnerable sectors.
We cannot allow the defense of human rights that these organizations have carried out to be equated with the activity itself considered as “an attitude very in favor of conservatism” or “they are seeking to create an environment of violence that does not have the dimensions” or worse still “magnifying things.”
This government must at all times guarantee and respect the work carried out by defenders in our country and adopt necessary and urgent measures to stop all types of attacks or aggression. It is important that the Mexican State recognizes the work of human rights defenders in Mexico, preventing attacks against them through the creation of a culture of human rights, training and educating officials at all levels.
We recognize the important work carried out by organizations in favor of the defense and promotion of human rights, and their contribution to improving the conditions of the population in the country in the fight for truth, justice and in favor of democracy.
We express our concern about attempts to use the acts of violence experienced in Chiapas to delegitimize human rights defenders and their organizations. We call for national and international solidarity to unite our voices and demand that the Mexican government respect the work of human rights defenders.
