One of the most popular Schools for Chiapas volunteer projects is painting murals in Zapatista communities.
These artistic projects are popular with participants because everyone has a great time; and they are popular with Zapatista communities because the finished products spread so much education, joy, and beauty in the communities. Because of the workshops, additional murals are always painted after these delegations. These service learning trips give the participants a unique opportunity to live, learn and work with Zapatista students, parents and teachers within their community centers while the mural is being painted and local Zapatistas participate in the Art Workshop. Often mural painting volunteers stay in the beautiful surroundings in a Zapatista community or center and paint together with Zapatistas under the coordination of skilled Mexican or international muralists. No special artistic or language skills are required. To see a video about on Mural Painting Delegation click: Painting without Permission.
