On the Jubilee celebration of 100 years since the birth of Bishop Samuel Ruiz, and the 50th anniversary of the Indigenous Congress of 1974, thousands of parishioners marched in from all entries into San Cristóbal demanding an end to violence and a path to peace in the State.
The Pueblo Creyente organization of the municipality of Chicomuselo, Chiapas, denounced that pastoral agents and servants of the local parish were detained by members of the group El Maíz, social base of the Jalisco Cartel New Generation (CJNG).
Marking the 12th year since the passing of Bishop Samuel Ruiz, the Pueblo Creyente, or People of Faith make the pilgrimage through the streets of San Cristóbal. Their communiqué speaks out against the many violences and injustices in their territories, and calls upon the Believing People to continue weaving together.
This Tuesday, with a pilgrimage and a mass, more than three thousand Catholics from the Diocese of San Cristobal, most of them indigenous, remembered Bishop Samuel Ruiz Garcia, 11 years after his death.
