The National Assembly for Water and LIfe denounces the systematic and widespread repression and criminalization of defenders of water, life and territory throughout Mexico.
With 250 people present, members of 60 communities, organizations and networks gathered on July 25, 26 and 27, 2025 in the municipality of Chilón, Chiapas, with the aim of sharing organizational and community experiences in resistance and in the defense of life, water, corn, territory and Mother Earth. They urged a continuation of weaving of resistances, a revaluing of campesino life, the production of food, the defense of seeds and the care of the land.
The declaration makes a resounding call to accompany the August 9th pilgrimage of Pueblo Creyente in opposition to the San Cristobal- Palenque highway.

Our compañero Águila of the Cochimí people of Baja California tells of their struggle against the mining companies that contaminate and steal their water and food sources, and dispossess them of their land.
“But we have to be aware that Mother Earth is a living being and we should affect her as little as possible. “We see Zapatismo as a philosophy of the indigenous peoples, which has come to sow the seed of resistance and teaches us to seek good living, to take care of the earth, fight for life, that is why we say that we are against capitalist development, but we want the best for the next generations.”
