After being threatened for 13 months, inhabitants of the community of Nuevo San Gregorio, in the autonomous municipality of Lucio Cabañas, returned to their lands.
The Network of Resistance and Rebellion Ajmaq announced that the Caravan of Observation and Solidarity, made up of organizations, collectives and adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle continue to permanently monitor the work being done in the community of Nuevo San Gregorio, in the autonomous municipality of Lucio Cabañas.
In so doing, it informed that the residents of Nuevo San Gregorio returned to work in the fields, which since November 2019 have been fenced in as part of acts of harassment by a group of aggressors.
As for the above, it reported that the Support Bases of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (BAEZ), in Nuevo San Gregorio, resumed their agricultural activities with the planting of wheat without any incident.
During the observation of January 12, the Caravan stated that at approximately 8:30 a.m., a group of 30 men belonging to the opposition group arrived near the lands where the BAEZLN are working, taking photos of the members of the Caravan, as a form of intimidation to hinder their work.
Despite this, he reminded them that the Caravan’s position is and has been in favor of peace; this is why they demand respect for the right to autonomy and free Zapatista self-determination, for their recovered lands that form part of their territory, as well as the respect and guarantee for the integrity, safety and life of the EZLN Support Bases.
