The First Zapatista Women’s Encuentro was held for four days around the New Year 2007-2008 and coincided with the 14th Anniversary celebrations in the Zapatista zone. Held in the caracol of La Garrucha, the event was a ground-breaking coming together of global women organized by and under the direction of indigenous Zapatista women. In this essay, A Collective Voice of Resistance, a group of US women — Cory Fisher-Hoffman, Tessa Landreau-Grasmuck, Kaya Weidman, and Mandy Skinner — collectively describe their experience and the value of the encuentro.
