National Indigenous Congress

The National Indigenous Congress is one of the most significant indigenous organizations to develop out of the Zapatista uprising in 1994. It comprises of a multitude of groups spread across the whole of Mexico and represents an important voice and forum for indigenous issues. In June 2013 in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, an important step was taken with the creation of the “Tata Juan Chávez Alonso” indigenous travelling seminar, an iniciative signed by an impressive array of indigenous groups, including the EZLN.
