Don Samuel Ruiz Garcia died on January 24, 2011, aged 86. Emma Volonté writes about the legacy of this beloved man and the thousands of people–especially indigenous people from the communities from the most forgotten corner of the country, as the Zapatistas defined it in 1994–who filed past the coffin. Don Samuel was the bishop of San Cristóbal de las Casas for forty years (1959-2000).
