–Forced displacement due to an attack by an armed group
The Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas Human Rights Center (Frayba) received urgent information from the Good Government Council (JBG) “New Dawn in Resistance and Rebellion for Life and Humanity”, Caracol Patria Nueva, in Chiapas, Mexico, that today, January 10, 2022, at approximately 1:00 am, the autonomous community 16 de Febrero in the autonomous municipality Lucio Cabañas, official municipality of Ocosingo, Chiapas, was attacked.
A group of around 15 hooded and armed people entered the autonomous community, displacing a family of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation Support Base, and beating a 15 year old boy with the butt of a firearm. Sra. Hilaria Hernández Gómez, 42 years old, was beaten and forced to leave her house while she was carrying her son Tomas López Hernández, 3 years old, the children Jeremías López Hernández, 10 years old, and Julio Cesar López Hernández, 6 years old, remained in the house. The whereabouts of Mrs. Hilaria Hernández Gómez and her sons Tomas, Jeremías and Julio Cesar are still unknown.
Frayba makes an urgent call to the Mexican State to intervene immediately to search for and locate Mrs. Hilaria Hernández Gómez and her three children alive, as well as to take effective actions to stop the aggressions of the armed group that is in the community. At the close of this urgent action we received the report that the armed group is positioned in the autonomous community, so there is a serious risk to the life, security and integrity of the inhabitants.
We demand that the jurisdiction, autonomy and self-determination of the Zapatista Good Government Council “New Dawn in Resistance and Rebellion for Life and Humanity”, Caracol Patria Nueva, Chiapas Zapatista – official municipality of Ocosingo – be respected when implementing the pertinent actions.
We call on national and international solidarity to sign this urgent action and write to the Mexican authorities to stop these violent actions.
We urge you to please sign the urgent action at the bottom of the Frayba page! https://frayba.org.mx/desaparicion-forzada-de-4-bases-de-apoyo-zapatistas-del-caracol-patria-nueva-municipio-de-ocosingo/
International solidarity groups are encouraged to draw globlal attention to the negligence and complicity of the Mexican authorities by tagging these individuals on social media and contacting them directly!
