Death of Searching Mother, Teresa González Murillo, Confirmed

On the morning of April 2nd, the death of Teresa González Murillo, a member of the Luz de Esperanza Desaparecidos Jalisco collective and leader of the street vendors in Guadalajara’s Historic Center, was confirmed.

Her death occurred as a result of an armed attack on March 27th, 2025, at her home in the San Marcos neighborhood. Three armed men attempted to take her by force and, when they failed, shot her multiple times. One of the shots caused an occipital and mandibular injury, which kept her in intensive care in a public hospital for five days until her death, which was confirmed by her colleagues and searchers.

Teresa González Murillo had been searching for her brother, Jaime González Murillo, since September 2nd, 2024. He was last seen in the historic center of Guadalajara, Jalisco.

The Luz de Esperanza collective issued a statement in which they angrily and indignantly demanded that authorities conduct a thorough investigation. They demanded that the work she did as a searcher and her defense of the Guadalajara merchants not be ruled out as motives for her murder.

At the same time, they emphasized that it is imperative to guarantee the safety of all searching families and search groups in Jalisco, as they wish to continue their search work without fear.

With the murder of Teresa González, between 2021 and 2025, the country has seen 12 homicides and one disappearance of relatives of missing persons.
