The dramatic rise in organized crime and violence in Chiapas over the past several years correlates to recent interest of the State in "development" of the region and simultaneously, its systematic militarization.
It is in this context that communities are resisting the destruction to their lands and way of life presented by the incursion San Cristóbal-Palenque superhighway.

As this complex of forces continues to bear down on peoples, we share this analyisis of the ongoing dispossession and violence against communities.
