En el 2 de mayo de 2014, la escuela y la clínica autónomo Zapatista en la comunidad rural de La Realidad, Chiapas, México fueron destruidas y el maestro Galeano fue brutalmente asesinado por paramilitares dirigidos por el gobierno. Tres semanas después, en el 24 de mayo miles de personas de comunidades Zapatistas en Chiapas, diversas partes de México y del mundo reunieran en La Realidad para hacer un homenaje para el maestro zapatista Galeano. Frente a la destrucción de arriba, los zapatista comenzaron a reconstruir desde abajo. La escuela y clínica reconstruida con unos murales fueron inauguradas en el 1 de marzo 2015. Tres semanas después una caravana nacional e internacional llego para pintar murales in honor de Galeano. Un mes más tarde una caravana nacional e internacional organizado por “Escuelas para Chiapas / Schools for Chiapas” llegó a pintar varios murales adicionales en honor de Galeano. Estamos encantados de compartir aquí una breve descripción resumida de la obra creada por este equipo multinacional de hombres, mujeres y un niño junto con la comunidad indígena zapatista de La Realidad.
On May 2, 2014 the autonomous Zapatista school and health clinic in the tiny rural community of La Realidad, Chiapas, Mexico were destroyed and the Zapatista teacher Galeano was murdered in a brutal ambush by government controlled paramilitaries. Three weeks later on May 24, thousands of people came from Zapatista communities throughout Chiapas, from all over Mexico, and from around the world to express their pain and rage in a powerful public homage to Galeano. In response to the destruction from above, the Zapatista movement chose to reject violence and to rebuild from below. The rebuilt school and health clinic decorated with several murals were inaugurated on March 1, 2015. One month later a national and international caravan organized by “Schools for Chiapas / Escuelas para Chiapas” arrived to paint several additional murals in honor of Galeano. We are delighted to share here a brief summary description of the artwork created by this multinational team of women, men and one child alongside the indigenous Zapatista community of La Realidad.
